APTET: Eligibility, Reservation, Application Process, Syllabus
Every state in India organizes its State Eligibility Test for certifying their aspirants who wish to take up teaching as their profession for standard I-VIII. Andhra Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (APTET) is yet another SLET/SETs that qualify teachers to pursue teaching as per their qualifications and eligibility. This Examination is organized to select prospective teachers and to fulfill the demands that come along with set benchmarks of education in the country. It was earlier an offline Examination but now it is a computer-based examination. Andhra Pradesh TET is conducted by the Department of School Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh. This examination is usually conducted in October. It is further classified into two papers to cater to the requirements of becoming a teacher for Primary and Upper Primary classes.

Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for Andhra Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test varies based on the category an individual is applying for. They have to meet the criteria below to become eligible to appear for the exam.
Age Limit
The age limit for candidates of the general category is 18 years to 44 years. While for reserved categories like SC/ST/BC candidates the maximum age is 54 years. This criterion stays common for both papers.
Paper-I (Class I-V)
- The educational qualification required for applying for Paper-I is Senior Secondary with a minimum of 50 % for general candidates and 40% for SC/ST/OBC/Physically challenged candidates with a pass certificate in B.Ed Special Education or B.Ed Course.
- The educational qualification required for applying for Paper-I is Senior Secondary with a minimum of 45% for general candidates and 40% for SC/ST/OBC/Physically challenged candidates with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education / 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (BElEd) / 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education) course before the publication of these guidelines in the case of candidates who have passed or been admitted to a DElEd / DEd course before the publication of these guidelines.
Paper-II -A - (Class V-VIII)
- Candidates must have passed a BA/BSc/BCom with at least 50% marks. The minimum mark for SC/ST/BC/Differently Abled applicants is 40% with a pass certificate of Bachelor of Education (BEd -Special Education)/ Bachelor's degree (B.Ed) Course.
- Candidates must have cleared a 4-year B.Sc Ed/ BA with a minimum of 50% for the general category and 45% for the reserved category.
Paper-II -B - (Class V-VIII)
For Physical Education teachers
- Candidates must possess an Intermediate Certificate issued by the Board of Intermediate Education, Andhra Pradesh or an equivalent certificate recognized by the Government of A.P., as well as a Diploma Course in U.G.D.P.Ed. of one or two years duration or a D.P.Ed. of at least two years duration (or equivalent) from NCT Recognized Institution.
- A Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent (or) a Bachelor's Degree with Physical Education as an elective subject (or) a Graduate in Physical Education (BPE) of at least three years duration and an UnderGraduate Diploma in Physical Education (U.G.D.P.Ed.) of one or two years duration/ a Diploma in Physical Education (D.P.Ed.) of not less than two years duration is required (or equivalent)from any NCTE recognized Institution.
For Physical Education Teachers/School Assistant (Physical Education)
- A Bachelor's Degree or it's equivalent with Physical Education as an elective topic (or) a Graduate in Physical Education (BPE) of at least three years duration is required. Bachelor of Physical Education (B.P.Ed) degree program of at least one-year duration from an NCTE-recognized university or institution.
How to Apply?
Candidates fulfilling the required criteria can apply for APTET by going to the official website https://aptet.apcfss.in/. A sum of INR 500 is charged per paper, which is collected via an online gateway. After the application is accepted and processed an Admit Card is generated which enables an individual to sit for the APTET examination.
The Pattern of the Examination
It is a Computer-based questionnaire with a total of 150 questions. A candidate is provided with a total time of 150 minutes for each paper. These 150 questions are evenly divided among questions pertinent to the several proposed curriculum parts.
Syllabus for the Examination
For Paper-I for Teaching Primary Standard (Class I-V)
- Language I - Tamil/Kannada/Malayalam/Urdu/Odia
- Language II - English
- Environmental Studies
- Mathematics
- Pedagogy and Child Development in relevance to the age group 6years-11years
For Paper-II for Teaching Primary Standard (Class VI-VIII)
The curriculum for Paper-II is divided into four sections.
- Pedagogy and Child Development in relevance to the age group 11 years -14years.
- Language I - Tamil/Kannada/Malayalam/Urdu/Odia
- Language II - English
- One option needs to be selected - Mathematics and Science or Social Science or languages.
