PSTET: Eligibility, Reservation, Application Process, Syllabus
Punjab, the land of five rivers is popularly known for its agriculture, hospitality, and diverse food. The state not only focuses on its industrial and agricultural sectors but also puts a great emphasis on the education of its upcoming assets/children. The Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test is organized by the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) that is monitored by the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Punjab (SCERT). This test is set and conducted as per the set rules and regulations of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The annual examination qualifies the applicants who are keen to become teachers in Punjab Government Schools up to VIII standard and is divided into two papers as per the class for which a candidate is applying.

Eligibility Criteria
Age
The minimum age to apply for PSTET is 17 years and there is no specific upper limit for applying in either of the papers.
Nationality
The candidate should be an Indian National preferably a resident of Punjab.
Educational Qualification
Paper-I (Class I-V)
While applying for paper 1 the candidates are required to have the following qualifications to be able to appear for the exam:
- An aggregate of 50% in Senior Secondary from any recognized board.
- Should have a four-year training in elementary education.
- Candidates pursuing or having a graduation degree or diploma degree with the above-mentioned criteria can also apply for the exam under the Paper-1 category.
Paper-II - (Class V-VIII)
While applying for paper 1 the candidates are required to have the following qualifications to be able to appear for the exam:
- An aggregate of 50% in Senior Secondary from any recognized board.
- Candidates must have a graduation degree in any subject from an authentic and recognized institution/university with a minimum of 50% for the general category and 45% for SC/ST.
- The candidate also needs to have a B.Ed degree to become eligible to apply for PSTET Paper-2.
Reservation
There are no specified seat reservations in PSTET, but a percentage relaxation is given to the reserved categories.
- Educational Qualification Relaxation:
- General category: 50%
- SC/ST/OBC/PwD: 45%
- Cut off Percentage:
- General category: 60% wherein cut-off marks are 90.
- SC/ST/OBC/PwD: 55% wherein cut-off marks are 82.
How to Apply?
The interested applicants can apply for the examination on the Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test’s official website pstet.net. The applicants are required to fill the form and upload their documents on the online portal itself. After the successful submission of the application form, a candidate is provided with a link to pay their fees. The fee is INR 600 for General category applicants, INR 300 for SC/ST/PwD applicants, and NIL for Ex-Servicemen (Self). After the payment is made admit card is generated that is required to be carried by the applicant on the day of the examination. A candidate can apply for both papers at a time but they will have to fill a separate form and pay a separate fee for the opted papers.
The pattern of the Examination
The examination is scheduled for 2hours and 30 minutes wherein the questionnaire is MCQ-based. There are 150 questions in this test, with one mark for each correct answer. The questionnaire is further divided into five sections consisting of 30 questions each. Which means that each section is of 30 marks. There is no negative marking in this examination therefore it is important to attempt as many questions as possible.

Paper-2
