NCERT textbooks have long been a fundamental part of India's education system, serving as a primary source of knowledge for countless students nationwide. However, these textbooks have undergone significant updates and advancements in recent years to keep pace with the ever-changing educational landscape. After the latest meeting of the NCERT panel, on the topic of Bharat India name in NCERT. The suggestion has been made that all NCERT books should replace India with Bharat. Although the final decision on the topic is yet to be made, the topic has given rise to a full-fledged debate among various stakeholders.
This topic has also led to highlighting the point of glorification of British and Mughal history in Indian history books, and zero to no mention of sacrifices made by Indian patriots. Regarding this, the NCERT committee has mentioned that they will work towards updating every necessary NCERT textbook as per the latest National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. For this, they have constituted a 19-member National Syllabus and Teaching Learning Material Committee (NSTC), that will finalise the curriculum, NCERT textbook and all the learning material for the classes. Additionally committe has also recommended to introduce Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in the curriculum of all the subjects It should be noted that the Indian Consitution, the supreme law of country uses both Bharat India in its text.
