CBSE UDAAN Scheme

The UDAAN Scheme is a program to enhance the enrolment of girls students in prestigious engineering colleges across the country. This scheme was started by CBSE under the aegis of the Ministry of Human Resource Development. In addition to addressing the concern of low enrolment of girls’ students, the scheme also addresses the teaching gap between school education and engineering entrance examinations. The objective of the UDAAN Scheme is to empower girl students and fuel their aspiration of joining the best engineering colleges across the country. The scheme also focuses on three dimensions of education-curriculum design, transaction, and assessment. By addressing these three dimensions, educators can enhance the teaching-learning journey. Moreover, the stress is on enriching the teaching-learning process in the field of science and technology.

Importance of Girl Education

Girl education is not only crucial for improving the quality of life of females but it is equally important for nation-building. Girls who receive a quality education are more likely to lead healthy and productive lives. By investing in girl education, we provide an opportunity for female students to showcase their talent. Moreover, they get the chance to earn a higher income, participate in decision-making, and build a better future for themselves and those related to them. Girl education also bridges the gap between gender inequalities and helps in the development of a more resilient economy.

Education for girl students is not just limited to providing them access to a classroom. It is more than that. It includes making them feel safe in classrooms and providing them the required support in subjects and careers they choose.

The benefits of investing in girls' education are:

  • Increase in the lifetime earnings of girls
  • Increase in national growth rate
  • Decrease in the rate of child marriage
  • Decrease in child mortality rate
  • Decrease in maternal mortality rate

All these benefits and a lot more can be achieved by investing in girls’ education.

Gender Equality in Education

Gender equality in education is not just limited to empowering girl students but also creates equal learning and growth opportunities for boys candidates. It also helps in the development of life skills like self-management, communication, negotiation, and critical thinking. Moreover, students discover themselves and understand how they can contribute to economic and social development. The gender-equitable education system is also helpful in reducing gender-based violence within the school campus.
