Preparing a Biodata - 6 Tips For Teachers

Introduction

Biodata is a document that describes the values, opinions, perspectives, and ethics of the person an organization would potentially hire. A good biodata needs to have details about the applicant’s actions, thought processes, and experiences of a person as a means of identifying their future talents, capabilities, and behavior. This is how hiring managers assess candidates, by scrutinizing the biodata and looking for possible indicators of what the candidate can bring to the company.

Is Biodata the Same as Resume?

In India, biodata and resume are used synonymously along with CV. However, there are subtle differences between the words, because otherwise three different words wouldn’t be warranted.

Biodata is a rather archaic term for a document that contains all the professional and personal details of a person. Biodatas used to be used for  different purposes, like for applying for jobs, marriage, applying to colleges, etc. However, as the requirements for different inititutions and nuances for each field change, it becomes necessary to delineate the differences in a person’s abilities so that employers can assess each applicant in their own right. Biodatas are generally not suitable for corporate roles because they contain both personal and professional information in them, making it hard to pinpoint what qualities align with the qualities they are looking for. For professions such as teaching, a biodata would be ideal.

A resume is more tightly knit. Unlike in the case of biodata, resumes are targeted at securing jobs, so it is strictly professional in nature. No personal information is to be added to a resume and is generally given by freshers in their early years. It is generally only a page long.

A CV is slightly different from a resume in that it is for experienced professionals. A CV is given by people who have several years of experience in a field. A particular type of Cv known as an academic CV is also given by students, where they highlight all their academic achievements so far as a means of getting into a college or university of their choice. There is no particular word limit or unofficial or official limit to

Tips For Writing Biodata

The average time a manager or recruiter spends on biodata is hardly 6 seconds. So, it is important to make those few seconds count. Here are a few tips for teachers on how to create a compelling biodata and make it stand out.

Easily Comprehensible

This is the most important part of creating a biodata. There should not be any difficulty for the recruiter in understanding what is being conveyed in the document, because if that happens, it would lead to confusion which would lead to them potentially not landing the job, which is not the ideal situation. So making the biodata as easy to understand as possible is extremely important.

Structure

Structuring the biodata properly is also very important to improve comprehensibility. The better understandable and structured the biodata is the easier it will be on the recruiter or manager to understand what you have provided and hence will be at a higher chance of getting hired. Structure it in such a way that the most relevant and most recent job experience comes first after which the rest of the information comes so that the recruiter can understand the most important things you've done and make their judgement based on that.

Highlights

Give a short summary of the biodata in the form of a cover letter or by offering is summary on the first page of the biodata. This will save a lot of time on the side of the recruiter in making the decision regarding hiring you or not. This will also help them in understanding that you value the recruiter's time. Providing a small section of highlights will make the job easier for both the recruiter as well as you which will in turn will impress the former.

Get Rid of Unnecessary Points

Try to avoid as much jargon as possible when creating your biodata because as mentioned above recruiters hardly have any time on their hands, and they will have to go through a lot of applications in a single day. Making the biodata as clean as possible can really help build a better image about you in the mind of the recruiter.

Refer Experienced People

To get a better idea about how you can create a better biodata for yourself as a teacher, you can ask experienced teachers on how they created their biodata. If possible send them your bio data and ask them for their opinion on the same. You can also ask people who recently got a job and learn what they did right on there biodata to land it.

Conclusion

So as you can see creating a biodata is not just for optics. Everything from its design to the content that is put in it should be directed towards convincing the recruiter that your document is the best that they have ever seen. If you follow these rules it can definitely increase your chances of landing the job. Of course, it depends on a lot more factors than the biodata alone to get a job but the biodata can be considered your face in such a situation, and, as they say, the first impression is the best impression.
