MPTET- A Complete Guide

Madhya Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test is an entrance examination for aspirants who wish to become teachers and this test is conducted by The Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB). The organization is a self-financed, independent corporate entity of the Madhya Pradesh State Government, which is currently the largest Indian body responsible for entrance recruitment and selection. The Offline Examination is held yearly to identify prospective teachers and improve schools’ education quality. This examination is further classified into three parts: MP Primary School Teacher Eligibility Test (for classes 1-5); MP Middle School Teacher Eligibility Test (for classes 6-8); and MP High School Teacher Eligibility Test (for classes 9-12)

Below we have listed a few necessary details that you may want to go through before applying for MPTET.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for Madhya Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test varies based on the classes they are applying to teach for. They have to meet those criteria to become eligible to appear for the test.

Nationality

The nationality of the aspirants should be Indian  for all three papers.

Age Limit

The minimum age limit to apply for Primary level is 35years to 45years; for Middle school level and High school level the age limit for an applicant is 18years to 35years.

Educational Qualification

For Primary School Teacher (Class I-V)

  • The applicant must have passed the 10+2 level examination with a minimum of 50% marks from a certified and recognized board. (This criterion is compulsory.)
  • The applicant must have passed graduation with a minimum of 50% marks and should have a pass certificate of B.Ed.; or a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education.

OR

  • According to the National Council of Teacher Education, applicants must have cleared Higher Secondary with at least 45% marks and a two-year diploma in Elementary Pedagogy; or a 4 years bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (B.El.D.)

For Middle School Teachers (Class VI-VIII)

  • The applicant must have passed the 10+2 level examination with a minimum of 50% marks from a certified and recognized board. (This criterion is compulsory.)
  • The applicant should have cleared a B.A B.Ed/ B.SC B.Ed degree with an aggregate 50% marks from any certified organisation.

OR

  • The applicant should have cleared the 10+2 level examination with a minimum of 50% marks along with B.El.Ed degree/a diploma in Special Education.

For High School Teachers (Class IX-XII)

  • The applicant must have passed the 10+2 level examination with a minimum of 50% marks from a certified and recognized board. (This criterion is compulsory.)
  • The Applicant must have passed a BA/BSc/BCom with at least 50% marks with a pass certificate of Bachelor of Education (BEd -Special Education)/ Bachelor's degree (BEd) Course.

OR

  • The applicant should have cleared the 10+2 level examination with a minimum of 50% marks along with B.El.Ed degree/a diploma in Special Education.

Reservation

There are no specific reservations set by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) for MPTET Examination but different pass percentages for all the categories have been set. Passing marks for categories is:

  • General - 60% (90 out of 150 marks)
  • OBC/SC/ST - 50% ((75 out of 150 marks)

How to apply?

Eligible applicants can apply for the MPTET by visiting the website http://peb.mp.gov.in/. The form for this examination is filled and submitted via online mode only. A sum of INR 600 (Rs. 500 for single paper and Rs. 100 as Departmental fee) is charged for applying for the examination from General Category aspirants and INR 300 (Rs. 250 for single paper and Rs. 50 as Departmental fee) from SC/ST categories, which is collected via an online gateway. When an application is approved and processed, an Admit Card is generated, allowing the applicant to sit for the MPTET examination. Admit cards must be obtained from the online portal since physical copies are usually not issued.

The Pattern of the Examination

It consists of a 150-question MCQ-based questionnaire. Each level is split into sections based on the curriculum, with weightage assigned to each subject based on the test categories. One mark is granted for each correct question, and there is no negative marking for incorrect responses.

Syllabus for the Examination

The syllabus for each category of MTET varies as per the demand of the teaching wing of a school.

MPTET Syllabus for Primary School

Following topics should be studied in relevance to the students studying in classes I-V:

  • Mathematics
  • Environmental Studies
  • Language I - Hindi
  • Language II - English
  • Child Development and Pedagogy (6years-11years)

MPTET Syllabus for Middle School

Following topics should be studied in relevance to the students studying in classes VI-VII:

  • Language I - Hindi
  • Language II - English
  • Child Development and Pedagogy (11years-14years)
  • Mathematics/Science/Social Studies for respective subject teachers and any one of the subjects for any other subject teacher.

MPTET Syllabus for Middle School

Following topics should be studied in relevance to the students studying in classes IX-XII:

  • Language I - Hindi
  • Language II - English
  • Discipline-specific subjects

Proper practice and preparation are essential for passing any exam. MPTET sample papers and category-related questions should be practiced as much as possible.
