Time Management Tips For Students

“ We must use time as a tool, not as a couch.”- John F Kennedy

Time management is the crux of the concern for students. Being a student is not that easy. There are a lot of things that they have to juggle. Assignments, exams, tuitions, classes, and whatnot. More often than not, this can be overwhelming for students. Time management is seen as a herculean task by students.  However, it can be tackled with a little bit of effort and strategizing.

Why is time management important for students? It is predominantly because good time management skills help students prioritize their tasks so they are able to complete school work and assignments on time. It helps students to stay on top of their schedules and meet their deadlines without confusion and chaos.

Time management Tips

Let us take a look at some time management tips that will help you to tackle multiple tasks and get ahead of deadlines.

1.Create a Plan

It is said that failing to plan is planning to fail. Create a solid plan and live by it. Another important thing that you should keep in mind is to create a realistic plan that you can actually stick to. You know your capacities the best, so try and stick to a plan that can be put into practice. While creating a plan, take all aspects into consideration. For instance, if you think that you can write five assignments a day, your plan can be to finish four assignments, you need to give room for mishaps like a power cut or a sudden hiccup.

2.Determine the Objectives

Understand what you want to achieve out of the plan. Whether it is to finish the assignments on time, whether you want to follow a routine every day, so on and so forth. Determining the objectives will give more clarity to your plan. In fact, determining the objectives and creating a plan should go hand in hand.

3.To-do List

Create a to-do- list. This is a sub-part of your plan. Every time you finish a task, put a tick mark next to it and this will give you the energy to finish the other tasks. And another important thing is not to check the length of the to-do-list. That will create unnecessary tension and worries.

4.Prioritize the tasks

It is always important to take the worst-case scenario into consideration. Keeping that in mind, prioritize your work from the most important to the least important. Give space for mistakes and mishaps so that if something doesn’t go the way as planned, you have given yourself enough space to bounce back.

5.Stay away from distraction

Find a comfortable space that is away from the noise and other distractions. It is advisable to sit away from windows and doors as you may shift to looking out or at people walking through. Keep your mobile phone aside and any other gadget that might pull you towards it. This will help you to improve your concentration.

6.Brain Games

Staying focused is important in order to ace time management. If you keep your brain healthy and fit, it will be easier to focus. For this, you can play brain games that will help in refreshing your brain and relax it from daily boredom! Jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, memory games, etc give the brain the necessary boost and this will help you to exercise your brain. There are games available that are specifically designed to increase your concentration. Search for these and you will see the difference yourself.

7.There’s no tomorrow!

One of the most important things that you have to stop doing is procrastinating. It is dangerous, to say the least. Quite often, students keep things for the next day and the work keeps piling up, and eventually, this becomes mount load of work. This causes stress, worries, and likewise. It is easy to say but hard to put into practice. As mentioned, you have to take the worst-case scenarios into consideration and come up with the worst thing that would happen if you were to procrastinate. This might help you to get your work done on time.

8.Take a Break

It is essential to give yourself enough time to rest and reset. This will help to boost your energy levels and you will be able to perform better after a quick walk or just doing what you love to do

9.Exercise

Exercise is often ignored by students. It is of paramount importance to keep your body fit so that you can focus on things. Apart from keeping your body fit, exercise also helps to calm the mind and keep negative thoughts at bay.

10.Stay Organized

Staying organized will help you a lot. Clutter and chaos will just cost you more time. However, some people like their workspace/ study space to be chaotic. It is pivotal to understand how your mind works and what pushes you to be productive.

Conclusion

Time management is hard to master but not impossible. You just have to invest some “time” and you will see the difference. Time management for students is crucial because it is the lack of time management that creates unnecessary problems later on.
