Higher Education Courses by UGC

UGC has decided to provide over 23,000 higher education courses for free on their new portal. These courses cover postgraduation and non-engineering streams. For this purpose, the council has joined hands with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The council has asked the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to integrate the e-resources with over 7.5 lakh Common Service Centers and Special Purpose Vehicle Centers. The courses will be made available for free and will cover topics like artificial intelligence, cyber security, and early childhood care.

UGC has come up with this plan to bridge the digital divide and make education accessible for all. Remote areas with a lack of educational resources are going to receive the maximum benefits from this project. The new portal by the UGC is going to be launched as a part of the second anniversary celebration of the New Education Policy 2020. The content will be available in English and other regional languages. More than 23,000 postgraduate courses, 137 SWAYAM MOOC courses in emerging technologies, and 25 non-engineering SWAYAM courses will be delivered through the portal. To bridge the digital divide, UGC has decided to take help from CSC (Common Service Centers) and SVC (Special Purpose Vehicle Centers). These centers are equipped with internet connectivity and computer facilities and are managed and operated by village-level entrepreneurs. This new scheme by UGC is expected to enhance the education level across the country.
